The Origin of "Fluffy"
Since Brian is all into "fluffy" terminology now, I figured I'd share with him (and the other Zaadzsters) the origin and meaning of this super-rich term. It all started on a park bench near the Catacombs pool hall in the summer of 04' where Mel and I were discussing the vast overuse of the term "integral." I was explaining to him that I was sick and tired of hearing integral This and integral That. Nothing like burning a good word out, ya know? So we decided we were going to make up a new word that could effectively replace the term integral. And what did we decide on? Fluffy...! Why? Because as I'd mentioned before the word integral was starting to cause me full blown fits of rage, and because we wanted to bring a little bit of humor and lightness to what is often such a stodgy and serious subject. So, here we were on this park bench, using the word fluffy as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
Then of course Mel began to popularize the term in his blog, without giving any explanation of history or context (cause that's what Mel does), and it has now reached the Zaadzstream. May the vision of fluffy be fully realized, and may we choose to take ourselves and the intricate maps of reality a little less seriously, cause dudes, I'm here to live a fluffy life, not to talk about it. ;)

Aha! Brian and I had very fluffy chat about this when Coolmel first blogged on Zaadz. Now we know…
Of course, some might have other ideas:
Fluffy
Term used by lesbians Meaning a woman is turned on In gay male leather circles, this meant term is meant for someone who isn’t into the dress code Derives from the description of someone who wears bulky or “fluffy” sweaters A putdown from a leather man might be: “You look awfully fluffy tonight”
Also can be used as a Derogatory term for a Bear as in “He thinks he’s so butch but he’s really just a Fluffy”
I don’t know what’s funnier! The origin of the word “fluffy” or Ryan’s find. Wacky.
Too funny, Vince. Love the origin.
When Coolmel first called me fluffy I had NO idea what the heck he was talking about and whether I should be offended, laugh or smile. :)
The damn word stuck and now I love it.
My personal favorite use of the word is a quote from you: ”One Fluffly Social Networking Site to Rule Them All!”
Yours in livin the vida fluffy,
-bri
hahaha. yeah. not to mention that a fluffer (warning: explicit link) is also a cool job. more fluffy definitions. but of course, context is always key. thanks dawg!
Ahhhh, the many meanings of fluffy. :-D
Now I think there is also a Wiccan term for fluffies, those that buy a book and start to cast spells and don’t seek the knowledge…just want to play dress up…
Then there is Fluff, which tastes great with peanut butter
as in, “I’m going to make myself a peanut butter and fluff sandwich right now”
There’s also the Peter Pan Version of fluffy: (no Feuradian insight or pun intended)
“where the view was covered with fluffy clouds, so pillow like, that Peter and Wendy landed on one and peered out over the magic of never-never land below.”
Or something like that…and the Pooh Version with a Head stuffed with fluff…or was that Peter Rabbit? Or Both one the head and the other the tail…Hehehehehe!
I love it the term an am of course using it in my own blog(s)! Because it’s perfect for Fluffy type me.

Don’t forget dictionary.com’s number 5 and 6 definitions of ”fluff”:
5. The parts of a junked car that are not metal and cannot be recycled.
6. Informal. An error, especially in the delivery of lines, as by an actor or announcer.
Ah yes, the use of fluff as a verb. “He fluffed his lines”.
I’m a great fan of discovering new uses of words. Notice I don’t say “invent” - I’ve noticed that words have a life of their own. For example, I discovered this new meaning of the verb “to fluff”: I fluffed my meditation this morning (meaning: I fell asleep sitting up)…
Love you guys!
:-)
Geez, had no idea it had all of those meanings. Just emailed the Bald One and told him a site had “fluffy” content…..I took the term to mean “air head”, like the pillow reference?
Hey, CoolMel, long time no talk.
Hi Lynne,
This is actually not Coolmel, but rather his evil blogging protege Vince. Good to hear from you though, and you tell the Bald One what “fluffy” really means… :-D
here's another meaning:
”Fluffy, adjective, used to describe a person of limited intellectual potential, whose membership of a sub-culture or interesting other-culture is used as a way of appearing more intelligent then usual.”
you see… it really depends on the context. E.g. Vince is very fluffy. go figure :)
“Fluffitation” : The Act of meditation as a social networking tool or a way to impress members of the opposite sex.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
A random synaptic event produces this association: with fuzzy logic.
After half a century of taking myself seriously and wanting to be sure everyone knew that I had it together, even when I didn't, I am now a practicing airhead.
Maybe that is a needed pod: Outing the Inner Airhead.
So after all this does that mean the term fluffy has now proven it's own integralness by incorporating all the above and still more… Sorry Vince there's the I word - breathe - no fits :)
Have you brought us back where it started?
Whew,
It certainly is better to be in a Fluffy Momentthan be aFluffi Person.
….then again…with fluffy planting all these seeds he might be a puffy little rabbit….having all sorts of baby fluffers….who knows…he may even impregnate the Easter Bunny and all the little chocolate eggs will turn into a golden fluffy goose!!! Ahhhh the Midas touch!!!
